How to test the VA VIX transport (4047281)

Sometimes during troubleshooting you will want to test the transport between the VA and the ESX(i) host.

The tool is vix-disklib-sample and is located on sharepoint- https://team.prod.quest.corp/sites/ts-dataprotection/vRanger/vRanger%20Docs/vRanger%20Troubleshooting/VA%20Testing/

Here are the steps to run the tool.

1. Copy the (vix-disklib-sample) testing binary to the “/root/vzva/<tools date time>” directory on the VA
2. Connect to the VA using SSH – Putty
3. Change permissions on the testing binary.
   chmod 755 /root/vzva/< tools date time >/vix-disklib-sample
4. Create a snapshot on the test VM.
5. Execute the following (VM values can be obtained through the mob):
   LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/root/vzva/<tools date time>/Vddk-5.0:/root/vzva/<tools date time>/Vddk-5.0/plugins32 /root/vzva/<tools date time>/vix-disklib-sample -readbench 2048 -host hostname -user root -password 'password' -vm moref=XX -ssmoref XX-snapshot-XX -mode <TRANSPORT> -libdir '/root/vzva/<tools date time>/Vddk-5.0' '[datastore] VM/VM.vmdk‘
6. You will see similar results like the following:
   
   SSL_VerifyX509: Certificate verification is disabled, so connection will proceed despite the error
   Disk "[iSCSI1] BN-vRanger/BN-vRanger.vmdk" is open using transport mode "nbd“.
   Processing 40960 buffers of 1048576 bytes.
   Read 64 MBytes in 1899 msec (33 MBytes/sec)
   Read 64 MBytes in 1790 msec (35 MBytes/sec)
   Read 64 MBytes in 2484 msec (25 MBytes/sec)
