Obtaining Machine ID and Installing Machine Tied License key on a Snap Server. (4047164)

Symptoms:
If you are trying to install a license on the Snap Server that starts with "SA", then this is old way and no longer valid.
The old "SA" license was generated with the Server# number that can be found when logging on to he Snap Server GUI and clicking the SNAPserver icon on the top left hand side.

The licenses are now linked to the NetVault Server (Snap Server) Machine ID (NetVault Configurator - Machine tab).

 

Licenses for Snap Server are now created differently and use the Machine ID from the NetVault Configurator - Machine tab, but without the NetVault GUI and Configurator it is not easy to obtain the Machine ID.

Please use the following steps to obtain the NetVault Machine ID from the Snap Server:

1. Logon to your Snap Server via Putty i.e. User name and Password.
2. Type in osshell.
3. Type in su and then supply the password.
4. Once you are in, then go to the /hd/vol_mnt0/BakBone/Netvault/util directory (This may differ from machine to machine).
5. Type in ./getmachineid

Once you have the Machine ID, you can then change the license key to the new Machine ID.

Unfortunately here in Support we don’t handle license keys anymore and we now have a separate License Department.
You can now manage your license keys yourself by logging on to the following link and enter the email address that is logged against the NetVault Server license and the Serial Number/NetVault Server License Number:

Once logged in, just click on the current NetVault Server Machine ID and the window will change, so that you can enter the new Machine ID.
Once submitted, you will eventually see the window change and it will now list the new Machine ID.
Then an email will be sent with the new license key.

Once you have obtained the Snap Server license, then perform the following steps to install the license on the Snap Server:

1. Logon to your Snap Server via Putty i.e. User name and Password.
2. Type in osshell.
3. Type in su or "su - root" and then supply the password.
4. Once you are in, then go to the /hd/vol_mnt0/BakBone/Netvault/bin directory (This may differ from machine to machine).
5. Type in "./licenseinstall [enter the license key number here]".
