Description:
After running a backup that fills the tape and attempts to span to a second does a check drive and then drive goes offline. Checking log context in offline message it says “Could not find media in drive xxx"
Symptoms:
Drive drops offline when spanning is attempted
Most likely is your tape drives in the library are not ordered correctly in Netvault. In other words what Netvault is calling Drive 1, is not what the library is calling Drive 1.
This is commonly seen in Libraries connected to a FC SAN. If the HAC was recently rebooted when this problem occurred then most likely you do not have persistent bindings enabled on the HAC. This allows the WWN to change upon re-boots causing the drive mapping in NetVault to become mixed up.
You can try Right clicking on the library and selecting, "Modify".
Then remove and re-add the drive to the drive bay.
