After upgrading to 5.4 or newerall network based backups are defaulting to use LAN-Free and failing (4047058)

After recently upgrading to 5.4.0 or newer you notice that the backup jobs are now failing trying to perform Lan-Free backups (VDDK SAN or HotAdd). Pre the upgrade the backup jobs did not have perform Lan-Free selected. The backups are completing after failing back to network.

Starting with vRanger 5.4.0 the virtual appliance can now be used to perform a backup and vRanger is now able to automatically select the backup transport based on what type of machine vRanger is installed on and if a virtual appliance is being used.  With the upgrade the transport failover is set to automatically and attempts Lan-free transport first before performing a network based transport. 

To correct this, you will need to edit each backup job under the Transport Selection make the changes below.

1. Click Custom transport selection
2. Check “On this vRanger machine”
3. Uncheck “On a vRanger virtual appliance”
4. Uncheck “Advance [SAN / HotAdd]
5. Check LAN
6. Keep clicking next to save the job.
