vRanger Restore: failed to acquire the shared resources....an ancestor of <archive file name&g (4046997)

Restore attempt immediately fails with error message:

failed to acquire the shared resources....an ancestor of <archive file name> could not be found

Possible causes for the error:

1. Missing incremental backup archive
2. file path length of the archive exceeds 255 characters (Windows limitation)

1. Make sure that you have all incremental backups present for the restore. Incremental backups only backup changes from the last successful backup (whether Full or an Incremental). In order to restore the VM, every incremental backup is needed.

2. Copy the folder of the archive to the root of the share - this will reduce the number of characters in the file path. Then create a new restore job using Restore from Manifest and point to the new location where the archive resides.
