There are several reasons that you may need to restart the VMware management service on your ESX server some of which include:
VI3 client lists the host as unresponsive and direct connections to the host from the VI3 client are unsuccessful as well.
Changes made via command line interfaces might not be visible to the VirtualCenter Server without restarting the vmware-hostd daemon
Before restarting the management service please check the following.
1.Open VI client and log into virtual center
2.Select server in left window pane that you plan to restart management services on
3.Select the config tab.
4.Under software section- select virtual machine startup/shutdown
5.Make sure “Start and Stop Virtual Machines with the system” is disabled
Restarting the management service can create a false positive that the ESX host is shutting down and can inadvertently power off virtual machines. Setting this to disable will alleviate this effect.
