Description:
Backups to SCSI connected HP MSL5000/6000 series libraries can fail if the terminators are set incorrectly. If the SCSI terminator is attached to the library controller in an HP MSL5000/6000 tape library, then Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) or Parity errors can occur. This could result in failed backups.
Symptoms:
Backups can fail with error messages
[Library_name]: had media error
[Library_name]: had media error
The tape will be marked as read only.
To avoid this, re-cable the library so that a SCSI terminator is on each drive instead of the controller card. All drives must be cabled directly to an HBA port.
Please refer to document c00659626 from Hewlett Packard detailing a change to the MSL5000/6000 series documentation to reflect this problem.
