Unfortunately you cannot create a VTL on a Mapped Drive for the following reasons:
1] Network latency - so performance will be lower.
2] Potential for network problems - causing retries or even failures.
3] Massive amounts of network traffic.
The altenative solution would be to setup an SVDL instead, as described in the NetVault Administrators Guide from page 52:
