Description:
An overview of the supported authentication mechanisms and login information of nvsendmail
The nvsendmail utility is invoked when NetVault is sending emails - either implicitly or explicitly. For security reasons, most modern SMTP servers can be configured to not relay email from unauthenticated users. This extension to the SMTP protocol is called "SMTP Auth" and is supported by NetVault.
It can be configured in nvconfigurator -> Notification -> "Mail Server". If "Perform Authentication" is ticked, nvsendmail will try to authenticate against the SMTP server. For this, it will use "NetVault's E-Mail-Address" as the login information, and the password specified on this tab. Therefore, the mail server should be configured so that it accepts this Address/Password combination as a valid login.
The two supported authentication mechanisms are "Plain" and "Login".
