It might become necessary to restore custom report jobs and definitions from a NetVault database backup, without restoring the entire database.
For more information on this topic, please see the Administration Module 1 Introduction to NetVault Backup-Web-based Training
The NetVault database plugin allows the selection of individual items for selection during restore. In order to restore custom reports that have been backed up earlier, it is necessary to restore one or both of the following components:
a) The Schedule Database - it holds the definition of the report jobs. Report jobs are just another type of jobs, have a job ID, and are held in the Schedule Database. Without restoring the Schedule Database, customized report jobs won't show in the reports window.
b) The Reports Database - it holds custom components for report jobs. These components can include custom fields and filter settings.
So in summary, the schedule database holds the job definitions - it tells NetVault what components to include in the report when run, but not the components themselves. These components can be either pre-canned components or customized components, and they are held in the reports database. If you are using customized components, you need to restore the reports database together with the schedule database.
