Description:
In SAN shared libraries where one drive is allocated to the NetVault server, it is desirable to scan tapes using the server allocated drive rather than smart client allocated drives. This has the benefit of preventing indexes and other information being transferred by LAN from the SmartClient to the NVBU Server, and minimizes any performance impact on the SmartClient caused by I/O during tape scanning.
Symptoms:
When selecting an individual tape to scan by right-click and selecting “scan� on the media, the media may be loaded into and scanned by a smart client allocated drive, not the server allocated drive.
- Select the slot which the tape is loaded in.
- Right-click and select "Load".
- Once the tape is loaded into the drive select the shared drive icon for the server.
- Right-click and choose "Scan".
