The Teradata plugin contains a utility to resume a backup that has faltered or failed before completing due to a database going down.
Under the backup options for a Teradata backup there is an option to "enable checkpoint restarts". This will issue an instruction at a frequency configured in the same screen to the backup software to verify the data sent at this point is safely stored and not in some volatile buffer.
Note this is only for when the database goes offline...it does not support hardware failure.
