NetVault does need to communicate bi-directionally. To configure NetVault to communicate through a specific port range, please follow these steps:

- From the left Navigation Pane, select Change Settings.
- Click the Firewall icon.
- Input the range in all the fields relevant to server-client communication. Two ports are required per client; for instance, if there are five NV Clients to be backed up, use range 20031 to 20041. However, it is recommended to use a wider range to account for ports that might be occupied by other applications or in the case a process got hung up. The range 20031 to 20051 would be more appropriate. Port 20031 is the default port used by NetVault to communicate, so it is also a good starting value.
- Apply the changes.
- Restart the NetVault Server Process Manager service.
At this point NetVault will communicate on the port input range exclusively. Open this port range on the firewall for both TCP and UDP. These range needs to be applied to the NetVault Clients going through the firewall as well.

Settings can be applied using the Server WebUI, but restart of the NV Client Process Manager service will need to be carried out by accessing the system. Alternatively, the range can be input using the txtconfig command line application.
