Description:
Symptoms:
Move media failures may occur when a tape library is attached to an LSI7202EP, LSI7024EP Fiber Channel HBA on MAC OS X.
Errors similar to the following will be contained in the NetVault logs:
Move media from *DRIVE #* to "SLOT #" failed
Drive # has gone down
Device "Drive #" OFFLINE or Device "SLOT #" OFFLINE
Double clicking the drive or slot offline message with the exclamation point will reveal context such as:
CAMDARWN 78 0 224919 Failed to open device
CAMDARWN 69 0 224919 Failed to open device
CAMDARWN 91 0 224919 ScsiOpenWithIdentification (END)
CAMDARWN 75 0 224919 ScsiOpen (END)
TAPESCSI 54 0 224919 Check Media (END)
DEVMGR 91 0 224919 Check Media returned 270
DEVMGR 522 0 224919 Could not find media in drive 270
This issue occurs due to fiber resets / reconnects with the LSI7202EP & LSI7204EP Fiber Channel HBA. When this occurs, the SCSI Target ID's will change causing the tape library to attempt to unload a tape from the wrong tape drive. The drive will reply that it is empty. Since MAC OS X is designed to bind the device nodes dynamically, it is not possible to set Persistent Bindings. Because of this issue, NetVault Backup does not support the LSI7202EP & LSI 7204EP Fiber Channel HBA on Mac OS X.
