Description: OS X 10.4.10 & 10.4.9 are listed as not compatible with
tape devices connected to Macintosh systems via SCSI or Fibre-Channel
Symptoms: Since the release of OS 10.4.9, there have been a number of
reported problems accessing tape drives with NetVault Backup and other
backup programs. These usually materialize as system freezes, devices
dropping off-line or backups hanging. This has been reported mostly with
LTO3 and Sony AIT-4 or AIT-5 tape drives, but may happen with other
types also.
Does this mean that NetVault Backup no
longer supports 10.4.9 & 10.4.10? No, this means that if you are having
problems with Backup Devices on these 2 specific versions that we highly
recommend that you update the OSX version to 10.4.11. This also means
that before we will escalate any device related case you must update to
10.4.11 or Higher
ATTO, EMC Retrospect and BRU all have posts in there knowledgebase's for

Apple has released OS X 10.4.11 (TOLIS Announcement). This update fixes
all of the currently outstanding tape device I/O issues. This is listed
in the release notes as a fix for SAM Block Devices. Users of OS X
10.4.9 and 10.4.10 must update to 10.4.11 as soon as possible to ensure
proper tape I/O operation.
