Description: After creating a VDL on a MAC OS several of the tapes show with no barcode. When you try to load them into Virtual Drive they get marked as Bad
After creating the VDL it was discovered that about half the tapes exhibited this problem.
Logged in as Root and using terminal (Do not use Finder, see KB article 466) edit ../ /slots/x/.media file. It was discovered that tapes that were ok showed a valid path to the file that was acting as the virtual tape (i.e. ../ /media/ . Tapes that were showing as bad had strange unfamiliar characters in the path.
Edited the path so it showed correctly and then Netvault Device Manager saw them as valid tapes.
Always make sure you turn off Netvault Services before editing VTL files.
