Title: Error message: VSS_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND
Date: 10/06
NV Version: All
OS Version: Windows 2003
Description:
A backup will fail with the following error:
Error 2006/09/17 17:22:00 676 Data Plugin XXXXXX Error creating volume snapshot(s): VSS_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND
Error 2006/09/17 17:22:00 676 Data Plugin XXXXXX Failed to create VSS snapshot
This happens when a backup is trying to create a shadow set volume on a disk that has not been setup for this to happen.
Enable Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) on the machines that needs to be backed up.
Selecting this option will take advantage of Windows 2003’s built-in support for Volume Shadow-copy Service (VSS).
This service allows for a “snapshot” to be taken of all files, including those that are currently active or in a locked state at the exact point in time the backup job is run. This snapshot is then what is included in the actual backup.
In essence, this option makes it possible to perform a backup of live files without having to take them offline and interrupt users.
