Description:
The SnapMirror2Tape APM requires a specific block size configured for tape drives.
Symptoms:
SnapMirror2Tape backups with the following message in the binary logs - "Data operation halted due to unrecoverable internal NDMP server error."
The SnapMirror2Tape APM requires target backup devices (tape drives) configured for 240KB block size. This is a Network Appliance (NetApp) requirement.
Configure any backup tape drives which are the target of SnapMirror2Tape backups with a block size of 240KB.
Step 1. In the NetVault Device Management window, select the drive/s which will be used for SnapMirror2Tape backups.
Step 2. Right click and select the 'Configure' option.
Step 3. Select the 'Configuration' tab within the 'Edit Drive' window.
Step 4. Enter 240 into the 'Media block size' field .
Step 5. Press the 'OK' button
Blank and label the tapes targeted by SnapMirror2Tape backup jobs.
Note: Due to this uncommon block-size requirement, it is best to target specific tapes and drives for the exclusive use of SnapMirror2Tape backup jobs.
