When taking a snapshot in the VI Client you receive the Error Message: The operation has timed out.

Cause
Putty to ESX host works but authentication takes about 40-50 sec or longer than normal or expected.
Misconfiguration of or removed Primary DNS server can cause this kind of slowness.

Resolution
On the ESX server where the vm lives the primary DNS server was set to a DNS server that no longer existed in environment.
To correct point the ESX server to a new or existing primary DNS server.
