Description:
An Oracle Online backup will fail when attempting to save a copy of the database’s control file.
Symptoms:
In the backup job’s error log, the following error messages can be found:

-Failed to start to save copy of control file
-Failed to switch log file for thread 1
-Backup failure: one selected item couldn't be processed.
-Failed to Save file list

-Fatal error: Backup failed
Some of these error messages contain context information containing the following Oracle generated error messages:
-ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
-Failed to start to Save copy of control file: [path to control file]
Reason:
The account used for the Oracle Online APM backup has insufficient privileges to dump online log files to archive.
The Oracle DBA needs to grant more rights to the user that has the backup has been configured to run as.
Also check the Oracle alert file as it should list this failure in full. This should contain information that will identify what permissions need to be added to the user id.
