A vRanger 5.3.x job running against ESXi 4.x or vSphere 5 will progress until the 24% mark, then go no further. No error is presented, and the task must either be canceled manually, or canceled by the global timeout setting
If the vRanger machine is running Windows XP, that OS is no longer supported as a platform for vRanger. The limited number of socket connections to/from a machine running that OS is too low for vRanger 5.3.x running the new vddk 5.x API from VMware. As a result, all connections are in use, and none are available to service the READ request from the ESXi or vSphere 5 host(s), resulting in the hang.
Install vRanger on a server-class Operating System (e.g. Windows 2003 or 2008). These operating systems have a much higher socket connection limit. Windows XP is no longer supported as a platform for a vRanger install as of 5.3.0.
