NVDB backup fails with Database Media Manager has dropped connection (4045831)

Symptoms:
NVDB backup fails with following error in binary log:

Job Message 2008/03/26 08:29:17 66 Media deepthought Saveset index files found for 1 deleted backups
Error 2008/03/26 08:29:17 66 Data Plugin deepthought Database Media Manager has dropped connection
Error 2008/03/26 08:29:17 66 Data Plugin deepthought Fatal error while backing up Media Manager - Aborting
Error 2008/03/26 08:29:17 66 Jobs deepthought Fatal error: Media Manager nicht mehr verfgbar
Error 2008/03/26 08:29:17 66 Media deepthought deepthought SL_HU10742WVY (HP Ultrium 3-SCSI): had channel error
Error 2008/03/26 08:29:17 66 Jobs deepthought Job Status: Sichern Fehlgeschlagen


If we run "nvmeddbcheck check" from the command line on windows system we fail with:

Segmentation fault

If we run "nvmeddbcheck check" from the command line on Linux system we fail with:

nbackup kernel: [1308020.851740] nvmedmgr[22014]: segfault at 158 ip b7d1a5c4 sp bfbe4a28 error 4 in libnv6.so[b7cde000+113000]


media manger dies while dealing with a error during a database check and We see the following in the media manager trace:

4 MAP :14901 6 0 111458 TRUE = MapInsertEntry(0x0x9af71b0, 0x0xbf9bc750)

Cause:

nvmeddbcheck crashes when producing certain error strings in German

The workaround is swapping back to English temporarily
to do this start the nvconfigurator
select the general tab
and change the "language selection" field to english
