Description: This document briefly explains why a user may see generation based savesets expiring even though they have increased the number of generations to keep.


Symptoms:

The number of generations to keep ("Discard after NN Full Backups" in Advanced Options of a backup job) has been increased but the savesets created using the original value are expiring as per the original value.

When a saveset is created the generation information is written into the database. Changing the generations to keep value will only affect new savesets.

There are two ways to workaround this:
1. Perform a data copy of the savesets. The new savesets will inherit the new generation value.
2. Manually change the generation value by modifying the savesets in Media Management.
