When performing a vRanger Hot-Add or SAN-based LAN-free backup of a VM, the backup fails appears to be working, then suddenly fails with the error message below:
Message: An internal error occurred during execution, please contact Quest support if the error persists. Error Message: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: '[datastore name] {vmdirectory}/{vmname}.vmdk' Key being added: '[datastore name] {vmdirectory}/{vmname}.vmdk'
There may have been a "back-end" failure and failover of a SAN (iSCSI or Fibre) path in a multipathed Datastore LUN setup (e.g. when an ESX/ESXi Cluster has shared storage, and that storage is setup with redundant pathing back to the SAN storage). If the path fails-over from the primary preferred path to the redundant one DURING the backup itself, vRanger cannot dynamically "change paths" to use the new path, and the backup fails.
1) In the VMWare vSphere client, click on the host machine where this VM resides.
2) Go to the "Configuration" tab for the host machine.
3) Click on "Storage Adapters". Find the redundant storage adapters that server the Datastore LUNs (either Fibrechannel HBAs, iSCSI HBAs, or the VMware Software iSCSI Adapter). Click on one of the adapters.
4) On the top-right-hand side of the screen, select "Rescan All".
5) When complete, Refresh the vRanger inventory.
6) Re-run the backup. The job should now complete.
On German Operating systems the Error Message is:
Error Message: Das Element wurde bereits hinzugefügt. Schlüssel im Wörterbuch: '[datastore name] {vmdirectory}/{vmname}.vmdk'. Hinzuzufügender Schlüssel: '[datastore name] {vmdirectory}/{vmname}.vmdk'
