A brand new installation of vRanger 5.2.x is performed and upon completion of the installation vRanger 5.2.x does not start up. If you look in the Event Viewer under the vRanger Service located in the Application and Serivce Log in Windows 2008 R2.
You will see the following error:
vRanger Backup & Replication encountered an error during startup. The exact error message was: There was a problem reading the license contents: Trial Period has expired..
The trial license that vRanger 5.2.x comes with is a 90 day trial license that was created in 2011 and in 2012 is seen as a expired license. There is a defect in vRanger 5.2.x that will not allow it to start up with a expired license.
There are 2 options to resolve this issue, please follow these steps if you want to continue to use vRanger 5.2.x to and correct the issue:
1. Set the system date that vRanger is installed on to 10/1/2011
2. Restart the vRanger Service
3. Start up the vRanger once again and this time it will start up correctly
4. Apply your official license
5. Close vRanger and set the system back to the correct date
6. Restart the vRanger service once again
7. Start vRanger once again and now it will be fully operational with the correct system date set
The second option is to upgrade to a newer versoin of vRanger that has this issue also resolved.
