Description: Tech Note - Upgrading from TD APM 7.x to 9.x
Problem description:
A Teradata backup job – created with TD APM 7.x and containing database exclusions – does not generate the correct ARC script when executed with TD APM 8.7 or later. The EXCLUDE section of the ARC script is missing. TD APM 8.7 introduced the Hierarchical and Classical Views in the Backup GUI, which caused a major redesign of the data tree that is stored with a backup. The special code, that managed backward compatibility with version 7.x, did not take database exclusions in the “old” data tree into account.
Solution #1: Recreate Teradata backup jobs
Database exclusions work correctly for Teradata backup jobs that are created with TD APM 8.7 or later. The first solution to the problem is to:
1.Upgrade TD APM 7.x to TD APM 9.x.
2.For each existing backup job with excluded databases, create a new one with a slightly different name and set all of its configuration values to that of the original backup job. Save the new job. To determine if a backup job has excluded databases do the following:
oOpen the Job Management window
oRight-mouse-click on the job
oSelect ‘Edit/View Job’
oAny red crosses on the Selections tab mean the job must be recreated
3.Run each new job to verify that it backs up the correct data. Optionally, you may want to set the parameter ‘Generate ARC Script Only’ for each job before saving it. That way, you can run the job and verify that the ARC script is correct before backing up any real data.
4.When you are satisfied that all the new jobs back up the correct data you can delete the old jobs and rename the new ones. Don’t forget to uncheck ‘Generate ARC Script Only’ if you temporarily used that option to verify
