Network configuration for multihomed (multiple IP Address) server/clients (4045218)

For server/clients which are multihomed systems, network related issues/errors may occur such as the following:

• NetVault Client may not be able to be added to a backup server
• NV Client may continually go online/offline
• "Child Process Died Unexpectedly" errors during backup/restore
• "<Client> has changed its preferred address" messages can be found on the logs

Network traffic is not being routed correctly (or consistently) between the NetVault server and the client/s.
 

Configure a 'Preferred network address' for the relevant server and/or clients.

• Using the WebUI
  1. From the left navigation pane, select Manage Clients.
  2. Select the server or the client from the NetVault Clients list, then press the [📝Manage] button.
  3. At the bottom of the View Client screen, press the [🔧Configure] button.
  4. Click the Network Manager icon.
  5. Enter the IP Address of the NIC that NetVault should ALWAYS use into the 'Preferred network address' field.
  6. Enter the IP Address/es of any NICs that NetVault should NEVER use in the 'Comma separated list of barred address(es)' field.
  7. Press [✔️Apply] to save the changes.
  8. Restart NetVault Process Manager service on the server or client to enact the changes.

• From an elevated command line
  1. Navigate to the NetVault binaries directory.
     • Default location in Windows is C:\Program Files\Quest\NetVault\bin
     • Default directory in Linux is /usr/netvault/bin
  2. Run txtconfig
  3. Input p to list the configuration pages
  4. Input the number that correspond to Network Manager e.g. 18) Network Manager, and press the Enter key
  5. Input 2 for Connections
  6. Input 2 for Preferred network address
  7. Enter the IP Address of the NIC that NetVault should ALWAYS use
  8. Back on the Network Manager menu, Input 2 for Connections
  9. Input 3 for Comma separated list of barred address(es)
  10. Enter the IP Address/es of any NICs that NetVault should NEVER use to communicate
  11. Input s to save the changes
  12. Input p to list the configuration pages again
  13. Input 3 for Services
  14. Input 2 to stop the NetVault services, wait for the service status to change to Stopped
  15. Input 2 again to restart the NetVault services
  16. Input q to quit the txtconfig utility

Availability broadcasts, which occur every 5 minutes by default, are used to transfer this type of information between clients and the server. In most cases, the change in configuration may not take effect immediately. For additional information, refer to NetVault Administration Guide.
