Title: Source of "All segments have expired" message
Description:
Manually reusing a tape of a spanned backup will leave remaining tapes in state of "All segments have expired".
Symptoms:
In some circumstances NetVault that leaves tapes in a state of "all segments have expired" and does not mark them for reuse.
This occurs when a job spans more than one tape and one of the earlier tapes in the saveset is manually marked for reuse or blanked. The manually marked tape will be marked for re-use correctly, but the remaining tapes are shown as "All segments have expired" and are never marked for reuse.
To correct tapes that are in this state take the following action:
1) in the media manager edit the tape and manually set for reuse
or
2) In NetVault 8.0 update1 or higher this media will be put automatically into the correct state when NetVault database backup is run with backup option “compact” is used.
Further information:
Do not manually mark tapes for reuse unless all the tapes in the saveset are marked.
To blank a tape that is part of a multi-tape backup, to bring up the media manager, select the tape for blanking and double click it. This will show all savesets on the tape. Then right-click and remove the savesets on it - they will be removed from the other tapes as well.
