When the ESXi 5.x host is added to the VC some fuctions like creating a VM directly on the host no longer work. And if the VC goes down these functions are still locked.
This is a ESXi 5 function and once the ESXi 5 host is added to the vCenter Server some functions no longer work directly from the host.
The solution to this problem is to disassociate the ESXi Server system from the vCenter Server system. To disassociate the host, do the following:
1. Using the vSphere Client, connect directly to the ESXi 5.0 host system.
2. In the left (inventory) panel, click the host.
3. In the right-hand panel, click Summary. From the section named Host Management at the bottom right, click Disassociate host from vCenter Server.
Note: You do not need to place the host in Maintenance Mode.
4. After you recover the virtual machine or the vCenter server is up after being down, add the host back to the vCenter server.
