Antivirus warning Core Service trying to access drive sector 0
Description
Antivirus software is issuing warnings that the Rapid Recovery Core Service (core.service.exe) is attempting to access the storage device sector 0.
Cause
The Rapid Recovery Core Service (core.service.exe) collects metadata from the system it resides on as well as from the systems it protects. Sector 0 contains such info as FAT and MBR tables that give information about the storage\partition configurations, this information can then be used for multiple purposes (e.g. mounting the recovery points, validating the storage used for repositories as well as checking the location for temp files that software creates, for example, when running backup check jobs, etc.). It's hard to pin point an exact request that triggered the warning, most likely it's a part of generic metadata gathering process that the software initiates periodically automatically.
Resolution
Rapid Recovery requires access to sector 0 of the disk, and it is recommended to create an exclusion entry for this process on the antivirus software.
Your Request will be reviewed by our technical reviewer team and, if approved, will be added as a Topic in our Knowledgebase.
