How to perform maintenance on a Windows-based ISCSI Repository
Description
This KB describes the procedure to dismount an ISCSI Repository connected from a Windows server cleanly.
Resolution
This KB pertains to Core Servers with a Windows ISCSI volume attached repository. At some point, you may need to run Windows updates on your storage server. To ensure repository integrity, please take into account the following guidelines:
Disable Automatic Windows updates on your Core Server and Windows-based ISCSI server.
Proceed to run Windows updates on the ISCSI server once you have entirely stopped the Core Service. If the volumes are other than local disks, you will need to follow your storage vendor procedures for rebooting and re-attaching the back end storage.
Once Windows updates complete on the storage server, make sure the ISCSI volumes are available to the core server. For example, verify in the disk management console that disks are online and check that you can browse the folder for repository files. You might need to check the Windows ISCSI initiator Utility if you do not see the disks online.
Once the repository volumes are available, you can start the core service again.
