Description

When Backing up 1 specific VM getting error message:
“API call failed A general system error occurred protocol error vmx"
Resolution
In order to perform a quiesced snapshot without error:
1. Verify that no third-party backup software on the virtual machine affects or interferes with the functionality of Volume Shadow Copy.
2. Restart VMware tools within the guest operating system.
3. Attempt the backup operation.
