Description:
When customizing the SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR RECLAMATION OF DISK SPACE found on the pages 16 and 17 of the NetVault Backup Application Notes Data Domain 5xx .pdf file attached here.
1. The NetVault Process Manager Service that will be used to communicate to the Data Domain CIFS / NFS share MUST have full access to Read / Write / Delete / Create files and folders.
2. The NetVault Configurator MEDIA MANAGER tab MUST have the USE BARCODE AS LABEL Box Check Marked, so the script will not error out when it uses the Media Label as the parameter for the command "%nvutil%\nvlabelmedia.exe" -barcode %ML% (%ML% being the Media Label set above on the script)
3. The NetVault VTL Created on the DataDomaind MUST have ENTRY/EXIT Ports.
4. The Target Tab of Backup Job Definitions that write to the NetVault VTL MUST have the following settings (it is advisable to create a Target Set with these definitions)
a. The TARGET MEDIA BY in the MEDIA OPTIONS in the Target Tab MUST be set to GROUP LABEL, So we will Use media groups to make the targeting of data, and re-use of media easier to plan and deploy.
b. The LABEL MEDIA Option in the MEDIA OPTIONS in the Target Tab MUST have the “Automatically Label Blank Media” BOX Unchecked, So any free media items available, would not be used first, which would then exclude the re-use of media.
c. The REUSE MEDIA Radio MUST be SET to NEVER, So ONLY the Script will be properly taking care of the Task of Reusing the Media.
