Description: When using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, there are implications due to the SCSI driver the OS is using. This solution describes the possible consequences, as well as steps to take to use the correct driver.
Symptoms: When trying to add a device in NetVault, the Device Manager might hang or not display any devices at all. You might see warnings about "deprecated SCSI function calls" in the system logs.
This is a problem with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. Those two operating systems are not using the up-to-date SG driver, but instead the ST driver, hence the warnings in the system logs.
In order to use Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 with NetVault, the U1 update needs to be applied. This is documented in the supported platform matrix.
