If the HP LeftHand DSM for MPIO is installed on a Windows host that is presented the same LUNs as ESX, this can cause LUN accessibility issues for ESX hosts. This issue occurs due to the unique LUN locking ability of the DSM for MPIO.
The storage stack for ESX will use SCSI-2 Reserve/Release commands or the Atomic Test & Set (ATS) capability of VAAI to lock a LUN, neither of which works with the HP Lefthand DSM for MPIO. HP recommends against installing the HP LeftHand DSM for MPIO on any host that has visibility to ESX LUNs.
