Description:
This article explains how to create a new media database without overwriting the original one this can be useful when fault finding media database problems or strange device/ media problems as the media database also contains the device tree.
Symptoms:
Any suspected Media database problems such as unable to scan media.
When customer right click a saveset in the in the restore window, selects list media and gets "Failed to send message on lingered connection"
1/ Make a note of all devices and there names in the device management window
2/ stop netvault on netvault server
3/ go to the \NetVault\db directory on the netvault server
4/ rename MediaDatabase directory to OldMediaDatabase
5/ start netvault on server
6/ Go to device management add all devices with there old name
7/ right click and scan all libraries starting with the VDL's as they will scan very quickly.
This is usually for diagnostic purposes but in an emergency this procedure can be used to recreate customer's media database
