Description:
Tip for recovering NetVault Database quickly after catasrophic loss.
Symptoms:
Customers with very large tape library will understand that recovering the NetVault Database (NVDB) after catasrophic loss can be a time consuming job, especially since all tapes in the library will need to be scanned before NVDB can be restored.
Cause of problem:
The requirement to scan all the tapes in the library can very time consuming.
The NetVault Administrator's Guide suggests removal of all media from the library apart from the tape/s containing the NVDB backup. Unfortunately, if a library contains many 100's of tapes then removal of all these media is simply not feasible.
There are 2 possible workarounds to this dilema -
1. Export the tape containing the NVDB backup from the library. Then scan it and restore NVDB from a stand-alone tape drive which has been temporarily connected to the NetVault server
2. Using the library's front panel, load the tape containing the NVDB backup into one of the library's drives. Add this particular drive as a standalone drive, then scan the tape and restore NVDB.
