Description: Backups of clients failing with Network disconnections
Symptoms: Machine 'XXXXXX' has gone down
Backups may fail with these errors in the logs:
"Fatal error writing backed up data"
"Fatal error processing children of ..."
The same backup run at a different time just fine.
On the Netvault server and NetVault Client, open the Configurator > Network Manager tab:
- Increase the 'Time to wait before dropping inactive connections' to 600
- Decrease the keep Alive rate to 7.
On the Netvault server only go to the Job Manager tab:
- Increase this Keep Alive rate to 1.
- Restart the Netvault service on all machines.
By increasing these timeouts it tells Netvault to wait a period of time for the comunication between the server and the clients across the Network to re-establish themselves. Then proceed with the data transfer for the backups.
Ultimately, this is likely a network issue. The suggestions here are workarounds to try to allow NetVault to function despite the Network problems.
