Affected NV Version: ALL
OS Version: ALL
Plugin version: N/A
Application version: N/A
Description: NVDB reducing/shrinking the size
Symptoms: NVDB is too large
1. Launch the Netvault GUI --> Go to change settings --> Under services --> Click “Schedule Manager”
Depending upon your environment and media recycling you may be able to change the number of days to retain data in the database. One item to change in the “Schedule Manager” tab is the
*** “Number of days to keep non-scheduled job in database [0=Forever]”. The value needs to be change to a number other then zero (Forever). After making your changes click “Apply” in the lower right hand corner of the tab.
2. Launch the Netvault GUI --> Go to change settings --> Under services --> Click “Media Manager”
Change values for these below two options:
*** “Days of inactivity before an index is compress [0=never]” to something like 30, 60 or 90
*** “Hours inactivity before an index is compress [0=never]”. Set this to 23 for a scan once a day or 12 for a scan twice a day.
3. Launch the Netvault GUI --> Go to change settings --> Under services --> Click “Logging Daemon”
Look for the "Auto purge entries that are older than" X days. If this is the default 120 days, you can reduce it to 90, 60 or even 30 days. We don't recommend going lower than 30 days.
Making the above changes will reduce the size of the NetVault database.
4. Any data about tapes in the database that is not deleted, it is simply compressed. The indexes still show up in the Restore screen and can be uncompressed anytime a restore may be needed.
Login to Netvault GUI --> You can also search through the "Explore Storage" --> "Explore Tape" --> "Explore media" , right click and Remove any tape records that are old and un-needed.
