Error creating volume snapshot “VSS_E_OBJECT_ALREADY_EXISTS”

Backup fails when  VSS option is selected.
Error encountered: “Error creating volume snapshot(s): VSS_E_OBJECT_ALREADY_EXISTS”
Backup is successful when VSS option is unselected.

1. A Volume has two mount points defined for it.
2. A Volume no longer ‘Mounted’  is included in the Backup Selection Set.

Resolution 1

a) Open a command prompt. | run command “mountvol  <Volume> /L”

    Example output.
      \\?\Volume{17fc6d6e-f6f7-11da-94de-806e6f6e6963}\
        D:\ 
        C:\Mount Point\data\ 

In this example we can see that both D:\ and C:\Mount Point\data\ are associated with the volume. If the volume only requires one mount point, remove the unnecessary mount point. If both mount points are required, then configure NetVault Backup to back up only one of the mount points.

Resolution 2

a) Configure Selection Set to exclude unmounted Volume.
