When attempting to add a VA to vRanger as a cluster assigned VA the following error message is shown:
"This virtual appliance cannot be added as the default for cluster 'Cluster_Name' as virtual appliance 'VA_Name' has already been configured"
If the clusters exists in different Virtual Centers, they may have the same Managed Object Reference ID's.
To verify if this is the issue, please do the following for each Virtual Center:
1. In a browser, navigate to https://virtualcenterIPorURL/mob/
2. Click on Content | ManagedObjectReference:Folder (Datacenters) | ManagedObjectReference:ManagedEntity (Datacenter Name) | ManagedObjectReference:Folder (host)
3. The ID of the cluster can be seen in the value box for 'ManagedObjectReference:ManagedEntity'. If the values of these are the same for clusters in different VC's, then this is the issue
There are two resolutions to this:
A. Deploy host only Virtual Appliances
or
B. Create a new cluster in one of the VCs to generate a new cluster ID with the following steps:
(i) Disable DRS and HA on the existing cluster so hosts can move safely from one cluster to another without VMs shutting down
(ii) Create a new cluster
(iii) Disconnect host(s) from VC (do not remove the host(s))
(iv) Drag the disconnected ESX host(s) from the old cluster to the new one
(v) Once the ESX host is on the new cluster, reconnect it.
(vi) Re-enable DRS and HA on the new cluster
(vii) The VA should now be successfully added to vRanger as a cluster assigned VA
