Description
Attempting LAN-Free or LAN backups of certain VM's gives the following error:
Error: "The database trasaction was rolled back."

Cause
One possible cause is that there was a past issue when upgrading VMware tools which has caused a problem for current backups.

Resolution
Re-installing VMware tools resolved the issue.
