When a quesced replication job run on a Domain Controller (DC) the CPU spikes and stays that way until you reboot the machine
The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service service (LSASS.exe) may be the service that is cuasing the high CPU count.
This occurs when Symantec BackupExec is also installed on the same server. Symantec installs a freezs.bat file similar to the one vRanger also uses in the backupscripts.d (c:\Program Files\VMware Tools\backupscripts.d) folder and when vRanger calls for a quiesced snapshot, the Symantec freez.bat file execution can cause the LSASS.exe service to spike the CPU.
1.
Please follow these steps to resolution:
1. Uninstall Symantec Backupexec agent
2. Reboot
3. Check to make sure the backupscripts.d folder is empty
4. Uninstall VMware tools
5. Reboot
6. Install VMware tool making sure that VSS tool are installed
7. Reboot
8. Run backup or replication. CPU spikes should no longer occur
