Backup Fails with Error Message: Task failed to be created: Creating a snapshot for vRanger
Description
vRanger backup fails on only 1 VM with the following “An internal error occurred during execution, please contact Quest support if the error persists. Error Message: Task failed to be created: Creating a snapshot for vRanger”
Cause
The vCenter user was added to this VM permissions as a Datastore Consumer Role and this Role did not have the permission to take a snapshot.
Resolution
Removed the vCenter user that was used as a lesser privilege role on this specific VM and the VM is now able to snapshot and backup.
