vRanger Physical Backup: client firewall configuration
Description

Due to domain firewall settings in Windows, vRanger may not be able to connect to the client to install the vRanger Physical Agent or connect to vRanger Physical Agent after installation.
Another possible symptom is that no disks are available when setting up a backup job.
Cause

Firewall settings on the physical computer and within the Windows domain/server prevent connection between vRanger and the client/vRanger Physical Agent.
Resolution

For Windows Server physical computer:

Create a new Firewall Rule.

1. Launch Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).

2. Go to Local Computer Policy.

-> Computer Configuration.

-> Windows Settings.

-> Security Settings.

-> Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.

-> Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security - Local Group Policy Object.

-> Inbound Rules.

3. Create a new Inbound rule with the following settings:

Rule Type: Custom

Program: All Programs

Protocol and Ports: Any

Scope: Which remote IP addresses does this rule apply to?

These IP addresses -> Enter the IP address of vRanger server

Action: Allow the connection

Profile: Domain

Name: vRanger Physical Agent
