Getting errors in NetVault Binary logs and System Logs/Event Logs:
"Failed to compress index"
The cause ot these errors is due to corrupt indexes in the NetVault Media Database. Running a NV Media DB check from the command line will indicate this as seen below:
Backup 18473 has corrupt index file (E:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\db\MediaDatabase\Files\Backup\0000\48\29) - delete the index file and recover the index from tape
Backup 18474 has corrupt index file (E:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\db\MediaDatabase\Files\Backup\0000\48\2a) - delete the index file and recover the index from tape
Backup 18475 has corrupt index file (Backup 18473 has corrupt index file (E:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\db\MediaDatabase\Files\Backup\0000\48\29) - delete the index file and recover the index from tape
To fix this issue, navigate to the location of the corrupt index as referenced by the DB Check, for example:
E:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\NetVault Backup\db\MediaDatabase\Files\Backup\0000\48\29
The files in this location will most likely be 0 byte files. Delete these and any others that are referenced.
The proper procedure for the deletion is as follows:
Once this is done, start the service back up. If needed, scan in any media that might appear as foreign or unknown.
You should no longer see these errors in the logs.
