To accurately confirm whether throughput on backups has decreased, and that backup times are now taking longer, the following can be done:
Create a task report for individual machines through the vRanger GUI by doing the following:
- You can run a report under “My Reports”.
- Right-click on the report you want (example; Backup Task Report)
- Click on Add Backup Task Report.
- Name the report and click Next>
- Fill out the fields for Date Range, VM/Source/Repository, Duration
- Choose option (Completed, Failed, Canceled and Aborted) to report on for both Job Status and Task Status
- Click Next>
- Choose the columns (all are selected by default) you wish to have in your report and click Next>
- Choose the page layout and click Next>
- Choose to make this an on demand job (checkbox at the top) or run it under a schedule (uncheck box at the top) you prefer and click Next>
- Click Finish on the Report Summary page.
Once a report is generated, compare task duration prior to the environmental changes, to the last number of tasks.
If there are large discrepancies, then there is an issue.
If there is no difference, then there is no issue.
