Title
A restored or replica Linux VM will not boot -
Description
When attempting to power-up a Linux VM that has been restored (from a backup archive) or replicated to a different VMware host than its original host, the power-up fails with a Linux kernel panic. The VM is unusable.

Cause
VMware EVC (Enhanced VMotion Capability) may be enabled on the target host machine, and the host machine's processors (notably several AMD-based configurations) do not support this feature. This results in the Linux kernel panic/failure to boot. -
Resolution
Consult the following VMware KB article regarding this issue:
Disabling EVC on the target VMware host(s) should resolve the issue, and the Linux VMs should then boot normally.
