This error tends to present itself during WAN replication where Ranger has to connect to the virtual appliances (VA) across the WAN. During the replication process if Ranger losses connection to either VA this error can be generated.
Due to the nature of WAN replication where we have to utilize the same line as any VPN, AD, network traffic over a limied line, this can happen more frequently if multiple replication jobs are running through the VA at a time. The number of tasks to be run through a VA can be modified through Ranger by going to:
Tools > Options > My Jobs > Configuration
Here you can limit the number of tasks that run through the VA at a time. The default is 2, however if you are getting the listed error you might want to consider moving this setting down to 1 or consider moving your replication jobs to a period of time where there would be lesser traffic running across the line.
Ranger itself can't 'force' a replication or traffic to cross the WAN, so unfortunately if there is a loss of communication or packets start to drop then you run the risk of the job failing.
