Replication speeds for base images are slow. This can be seen most clearly with a new replication job consisting of many recovery points (RPs) for an Agent. The first RP to be replicated, the base image, transfers at very slow speeds. If you continue to observe the job, you will see replication speeds increase dramatically, when the base image has replicated and incremental recovery points start to replicate. If the chain contain more than one base image, you may observe speeds decreasing and increasing as base and incremental recovery points come and go.
This has been attributed to the buffered index writer and how it processes base images on the Target Core and assigned defect ID RR-107941.
